Dancewarehouse Newsletter No. 4   December 2010

Well, I guess the first thing to say is sorry for the delay in producing the December Newsletter.  But with the Dinner & Dance on Saturday and the Medal test on Sunday, plus the additional lessons needed before the medal test, life has been just the tiniest bit hectic.

So here we are in the month of Seasonal Festivities and Goodwill to all folk, and so I guess that means I cannot mention the Aston Villa league position, or the fact that the Baggies are the highest placed Midlands team at the moment.

I can however mention the success of three of our teachers for their additional Professional Examinations this weekend: Claire and Lynn who took their Licentiate Latin American, and Kate who took her Licentiate Ballroom.  This means that every one of our staff is now Licentiate or above in qualification, which must be probably the highest qualified staff in the country!

I must also mention the success of Matt and Ellie, who won the British Juvenile Latin American Championship in November, along with Mitch and Harriett who also made the final. It was lovely to see that almost every one of the Champions, and a great number of the finalists, come along to the studio to train every Friday.  All of the social couples from the studio who came along to watch had a terrific weekend getting inspired by the dancing and then enjoying the comfort of the Imperial Hotel afterwards… Keep the date free for next year (Thursday, Friday, Saturday 17th, 18th & 19th November) as we will be taking a party again.

The Dinner Dance on Saturday started the Christmas month off with a real bang.  The meal was, as always, fantastic and the fabulous demonstration of our British Juvenile Champions completed what was a very successful night.  Then Sunday morning, I was back at the Studio for 7.30am to start a marathon examination session for all of the adults & children, who chose to take their IDTA medals.

If that wasn’t enough for the weekend, Charlotte kicked off the brand new Dance Show at the NEC on Friday morning with a Zumba Class that woke everyone up. I was then there on Saturday afternoon to teach Beginners Ballroom and Latin American, and then some of our kids were performing a show later in the afternoon. This was in collaboration with the Clothes Show and is set to become a calendar date for next year following its great appeal and terrific attendance.

And now to a very full month: this Saturday is the Family Christmas Party, the following Saturday is the Adult Christmas Party where Jamie and Courtney will be demonstrating for you.  Then there’s a little thing called Christmas Day, after which you can work off all that Christmas pud with the usual last Saturday in the month social and our New Years’ Day Ball with an American Supper and top class demonstration. (see Diary below for full details or go to the web site at www.dancewarehouse.biz

You don’t need to limit your dancing to just the Saturdays over the Christmas period.  We will be having our Social Practice Night on Wednesday 29th from 8 till 10.30, and also Zumba will be happening on Thursday 30th December at 7 till 8, with a special Zumba Christmas Party Session.

WEB SITE.

And at long last we have started to provide our members with videos of the class routines. Not all of them are there at the moment but we are working on it.  Please note the dancing Santas on the front of the web site are not one of the dances!

To get onto the members section where these dances are shown, you need to log on to the members section – it is not enough just to be registered with the newsletter.  It’s very easy: simply complete the details and send.  I will do the rest and you should be up and running within a day or two. Hope it helps.

If there is anything you would like to see on the web site that is not there already, or if there is anything that is wrong, please speak to me or email me with the details and I will pass on to Jamie (of course you could speak to him yourself…)

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY.

Saturday 11th December: Family Christmas Party, starts at 7.00 till 9.30 and tickets are available now, £5 each or a family pass for four (two adults/two children) £17.  We are hoping that this will also be our Children’s Medal Presentation providing the weather does not stop delivery of the medals from Brighton.  We are also having a team match which should be great fun (WBA vs Villa)

Saturday 18th December: The Adults’ Christmas Party, starting at 8 till 11.30 with the fabulous Latin American demonstration from our own Jamie and Courtney. A great night out with plenty of fun and frivolity. Tickets are on sale now at just £12 each, see me or any member of staff.

The planned Pantomime has, with great regret, had to be cancelled because of the heavy schedule that both Jamie and Charlotte have over Christmas period, which left us with no time for anything. 2011 will definitely have one.

Saturday 1st January: The New Years’ Day ball, with an American Supper and a top class Ballroom demonstration from Charlotte with her new partner Jack. These tickets are also on sale now at just £8 each.

CLASSES FOR DECEMBER AND 2011,

Classes will remain the same right up to and including Thursday 23rd December.

There will be a Social Practice Night on the Wednesday 29th December 8 till 10.30, and a Competitors Practice Night on Thursday 30th December 8 till 10.30.

The Zumba will have a special Christmas Zumba Party on Thursday 30th at 7 till 8.

The New Years Classes will then recommence on Monday 3rd January 2011 at their normal times.

CHRISTMAS VOUCHERS.

Don’t forget you will be able to get your friends or family a different and special present this year: a Dancewarehouse Dance Voucher.  These are available in either £12 or £24 denominations, which can pay for a class, a private lesson or a social dance.  Why not give one to someone you know who wants to start dancing?  Speak to me at any time to get yours now.

And I guess that leaves me with just one final message from Carol, Charlotte, Jamie, all of the staff at Dancewarehouse and myself…

A Very Merry Christmas

&

A Prosperous and Peaceful

New Year

To you All

p.s. I would sing a carol at this stage, but as no one can hear it doesn’t seem that good an idea… Although I can guess you will all say yes to that (as long as I’m here at the computer). I could do it on the video for the web site… now that’s a good idea, don’t you think?
